Why a Physiofixme Program Differs

At Physiofixme we believe in empowering you to help yourself.

We believe in order for you to recover completely from your injury, prevent further problems and perform at your best you need a program which addresses all aspects of the rehabilitation spectrum.

This is where our philosophy Rehabilitate•Prevent•Perform is unique. All our programs are designed around these three components ensuring you receive the ultimate in injury rehabilitation.

Rehabilitate:
“To restore or mend."

This aspect of the program focuses on the injury itself. What needs to be done to help you with:
  • Healing the damaged tissue.
  • Minimising the effects of inflammation
  • Restoring the damaged tissue to it’s former strength, flexibility and function

Prevent:
“To avoid or stop.”

This aspect of the program focuses on preventing further problems and minimising the likelihood of the injury happening again. In order to do this, all possible reasons why the injury may have occurred in the first place need to be addressed. One of the biggest causes of sporting injuries is a lack of core strength.

Core strength or core stability can be defined as:

“the muscular control required around the lumbar spine, pelvis, and hip region to maintain functional stability, with or without limb movement” Brukner and Kahn 2008.

In other words, it is the ability to control the pelvis and spine during activity.

A weakness in core muscles results in an inability to control the pelvis and spine during activity, causing abnormal movements which are a key predisposing factor to injury.

All Physiofixme programs include core strength exercises to address possible abnormal pelvic and spinal movement. Regardless of the injury you are recovering from, be it shoulder, knee or lower back, core strength exercises play an integral role in the rehabilitation process.

Strengthening your core results in more efficient movement for both upper and lower limb, therefore aiding in recovery and decreasing further injury.

Perform:
“To bring to completion” “to function”

This aspect of the program focuses on returning to sport and continuing to perform at your best.

We believe this component of the program completes the rehabilitation program and is essential in ensuring you return to full function and ultimate performance.

The focus of the program at this stage is on agility drills. These drills work on co-ordination, speed, proprioception and balance. While the other aspects of the rehabilitation program focus on strength and flexibility, this component ties it all together in to activities that are specific for sport.

Otfen during the coarse of an injury, the nerve endings are damaged resulting in delayed messages between the limbs and the brain. This means that actions which are often automatic become slow and unco-ordinated resulting in sub maximal performance.

The best way to restore nerve impulses or reflexes to former function is by repetition of these drills.
